The gift given by the wise men to the baby Jesus probably came across the deserts from Oman. The BBC's Jeremy Howell visits the country to ask whether a commodity that was once worth its weight in gold could be reborn as a treatment for cancer.

Oman's Land of Frankincense is an 11-hour drive southwards from the capital, Muscat.

Most of the journey is through Arabia's Empty Quarter - hundreds of kilometres of flat, dun-coloured desert. Just when you are starting to think this is the only scenery you will ever see again, the Dhofar mountains appear in the distance.

On the other side are green valleys, with cows grazing in them. The Dhofar region catches the tail-end of India's summer monsoons, and they make this the most verdant place on the Arabian peninsula.

Warm winters and showery summers are the perfect conditions for the Boswellia sacra tree to produce the sap called frankincense. These trees grow wild in Dhofar. A tour guide, Mohammed Al-Shahri took me to Wadi Dawkah, a valley 20 km inland from the main city of Salalah, to see a forest of them.

"The records show that frankincense was produced here as far back as 7,000 BC," he says. He produces an army knife. He used to be a member of the Sultan's Special Forces. With a practised flick, he cuts a strip of bark from the trunk of one of the Boswellia sacra trees. Pinpricks of milky-white sap appear on the wood and, very slowly, start to ooze out.

Shortly afterwards, a frankincense farmer arrives in a pick-up truck. He is white-bearded, wearing a brown thobe and the traditional Omani, paisley-patterned turban.

1. The Principle of SPIRIT ( MIND)

So every MAN is able to leave his state of ignorance and consciously enter the STATE OF KNOWLEDGE OF LIFE at any time, thus accepting the Heritage of MAN's PERFECTION and of CREATION. He thus changes his world and creates it new.

2. The Principle of Cause and Effect = KARMA

Each cause has an effect - each effect has its cause. Each action has a certain energy which requires that the like energy returns to its source, to its creator.

それぞれの原因には結果があります。それぞれの行動にはエネルギーようなものはその源で、その創造主に戻ってくる必要があり、ある種のエネルギーを有しています。

The effect equals the cause in quality and quantity. 'Equal creates equal'. Action = Reaction. The cause can be on many different planes. Everything happens in accordance to the LAW. Each MAN is CREATOR, carrier and surmounter of his fate. Every thought, every feeling, every action is a cause which has an effect. So there is no blame, no guilt or fault, no sin, no 'chance' and no luck - only cause and effect. Between the cause and its effect many centuries and incarnations could extend - as TIME does not exist. "Luck" and "chance" are expressions of a LAW not yet acknowledged.

Why do you have certain traits? Where do your patterns of behaviour derive from? Be aware of the effect of all your thoughts, feelings and actions! Let go of hatred, aggressiveness and fear and open yourself to Unconditional TRUST and LOVE. You alone are responsible for yourself!

3. The Principle of Correspondence or Analogy

For everthing there is in this world, there exists an analogy on every plane of BEING. So you can realize the great in the small, and the smallest in the greatest. The way you are yourself determines the way you experience the ouside world. Vice versa, the outside world is your mirror. When Du change, everything around you will change

4. The Principle of Resonance or Attraction

Like attracts like and will be enforced by like. Unlike repels each other. Your personal behaviour determines your personal conditions and the total conditions of your life.

Negativity attracts more negativity, darkness attracts more darkness, aggression attracts aggression, hate attracts hate, sorrow attracts sorrow, addiction attracts addiction, so if you do not stop, reconsider and reverse your path, your negativity will increase, leading into a downward spiral that - at a certain point - cannot be stopped and leads into depression, desperation, desaster and death.

Some brain changes that are found in adults with common gene variants linked to disorders such as Alzheimer's disease, schizophrenia, and autism can also be seen in the brain scans of newborns.

The study included 272 infants who received MRI scans at UNC Hospitals shortly after birth. The DNA of each was tested for 10 common variations in 7 genes that have been linked to brain structure in adults. These genes have also been implicated in conditions such as schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, autism, Alzheimer's disease, anxiety disorders and depression.

思いついたこと

母親の妊娠中の食生活や思考、生活習慣が胎児の脳に影響するのかもしれません。アポリポタンパク質Eは脂質と関係しているので妊産婦がどのよう脂肪酸の食生活をするのかによって遺伝子に影響を与えるのかもしれません。妊娠中の飽和脂肪酸の多い肉類、乳製品の多量摂取は体内を炎症体質にすると言われて、またアポリポ蛋白Eにも影響をあたえるかもしれません。また、思春期には脳が変化すると言われています。このときの子供の食生活が脳の遺伝子に影響するかもしれません。

一度出来上がった脳の仕組みの変化は神経可塑性（neuroplasticity）によって変化させることができるかも知れない。脳は外部の環境の変化によってシナプスの接続を変えて新ルートを作り、変化に対応すると言われています。

食生活や思考を変化させることによって、脳に対する外部刺激が変わるので良い方向に向くかもしれません。あぶらを販売しているのを生業としていますが健康のあらゆる面でどんな脂肪酸を取っているかによって健康が左右されるような気がします。
