Healing Power Of Moonlight | Moonbathing

Moonlight is the light that reaches the earth which is reflected light from the sun and some stars. Moonlight originates from the same source as sunlight, but the moon's surface absorbs the harmful UV rays from the sun. Also, the light reflected by the lunar surface is polarized with the electromagnetic vibrations occurring on the single plane.

After the Sun, the Moon is the second-brightest regularly visible celestial object in Earth's sky. In 499 AD, the Indian astronomer Aryabhata mentioned that reflected sunlight is the cause of the shining of the Moon.

Scientists researched that the moon has an effect on bodies of water causing high tides and low tides. It also has effect on human bodies, since our body is 80% water.

Exposure to moonlight provides many spiritual and health benefits.Vital organs, nerves, blood cells endocrine system, mind, emotions, energy and spiritual growth are affected by the moon. This is why many cultures have full moon ceremonies.

Most important Hindu festivals are celebrated according to the Hindu lunar calendar. Even today Farmer's Almanac associates times of planting with the cycles of the moon.

Ayurveda and moon

From the ancient days, the moon has been associated with feminine energy and fertility. Women's menstrual cycle is related to the movements of the moon. Both lunar cycle and menstrual cycle are 28 days long.

In old times before artificial lighting, if women were healthy, they would always bleed on the new moon, and ovulated at the full moon. Artificial light impacts your circadian rhythm. Circadian rhythms are physical, mental, and behavioral changes that follow a 24 hour cycle.

Even today, in many parts of the world women still refer to their menstrual cycle as being in their "moon time". The moon cycle is described by Ayurveda, yoga and Vedic astrology.

The moon is very hot during the day but very cold at night. The average surface temperature of the moon is 107 degrees Celsius during the day and -153 degrees Celsius at night.

According to Ayurveda, moonlight has healing properties. Exposure to moonlight cools down the Pitta dosha and it is beneficial for treating rashes, eczema, excessive sweating, heartburn, anger, hypertension, inflammation conditions, body odor and more.

Sacral chakra is connected with water element and procreation which is directly related to the moon. Check out these easy steps to balance your Sacral chakra.

Secrets Of Sacral Chakra

Moonbathing is ancient Ayurvedic treatment. It refers to basking under the vibrant glow of moonlight. It can be done anywhere where the moon is visible. Moonbathing is as important as sunbathing.

Exposure to moonlight regulates menstrual cycle, increases fertility, lowers blood pressure and stress levels, reduces stress and anxiety. It is also beneficial for maintaining good eyesight. Moonlight triggers the release of melantonin which promotes relaxation.

How to take a moon bath

The most effective time for moonlight is between waxing moon and full moon.

Spend time outside at night, take a walk on moonlight or open your drapes and windows with some of your skin exposed and let your skin absorb the moon's soft and healing light. Get away from artificial lighting.

Expose your skin to the moonlight for at least 30 minutes.

Connect to the energy of the moon. Observe moon's cool, refreshing light and absorb pure and serene energies. Looking at the moon has calming effect.

serene energies.

After moonbathing go to bed straight after and have a restful sleep.

If you fall asleep under moonlight you will wake up well rested, relaxed, rejuvenated and fresh.

Take advantage of this gift from nature.

Full Moon Ion Effect

Why does all hell seem to break loose on or around the Full Moon?

The term Lunatic is derived from the word Lunar (Moon). Simply put; Hormonal reactions to increased positive ions in the air (Full Moon Effect) cause hyperactivity, depression, violent behavior, road rage, higher occurrences of migraines and asthma. Even bees are known to sting without provocation on higher positive ion ratios.

In some middle east countries, Judges are more lenient on criminals if the crime was committed during increased positive ion wind conditions.

These periodic winds blowing in from the desert are called the Sharav. University studies in Israel concluded that increased positive ions can cause an increase in violent tendencies.

The Biochemical Reaction Just about all the air you breathe has some quantity of Aero-Ions.
Ions are charged particles in the air (between a few hundred to a few thousand per cubic centimeter). Some ions are negatively charged (Negative Ions) and some positively charged (Positive Ions). After years of research around the world, Ion Scientists have determined over and over that an imbalance in the ratio between Positive and Negative Ions has a profound effect on both your mental and physical well being.

If you breathe large amounts of positive ions without an equal amount of negative ions, you will actually become lethargic and in some cases sick (high positive ion concentrations in the air are associated with the full moon). Air containing more negative ions and fewer positive ions has shown to be beneficial and without side effects. That is why negative ion generators are sold around the world.

Lethargic 無気力

75% of the general population react favorably to negative ions but are adversely affected by positive ions, while the other 25% react in the opposite way, finding higher positive ion days euphoric and higher negative ion days boring. These people compensate for the stress caused by positive ions with sufficient adrenaline production.

In other words, 75% of the general population goes into different ranges of depression and 25% become hyperactive. We are all affected somewhat by higher positive ion ratios. There are no side effects from negative ions.

Ion research from around the world has proven that Serotonin overproduction stimulated by higher positive ion ratios is the primary cause for many of the problems associated with positive ions:

In the 25% of the general population during higher positive ion ratios, short term increase in productivity occurs (attributed to hyperactive adrenaline production). After extended exposure or duration to positive ions, this increase in productivity quickly turns into poor performance (attributed to a weakened or exhausted adrenaline gland).

Serotonin side effects

Once the adrenaline gland has become exhausted, the body then must deal with the excess serotonin. Without adrenaline to balance the serotonin side effects, the serotonin becomes a major antagonist to both man and animal.

Recent popular antidepressants work by triggering more serotonin in the brain and body.

On the other hand, ion science has discovered that this same neuro-hormone, serotonin. Is the cause of many of the problems? As stated prior in this article, serotonin triggers adrenaline which probably accounts for the initial antidepressant effect. Once the adrenaline gland is exhausted, usually in just a few short months, the serotonin side effects begin to show up.

Lists of side effects from recent serotonin triggering antidepressants are as follows:

Anxiety, nervousness, tremors, sweating, dizziness, lightheadedness, dry mouth, upset or irritated stomach, appetite loss, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, stomach gas, rash and itching.

Less common side effects include changes in sex drive, impotence, abnormal dreams, difficulty concentrating, acne, hair loss, dry skin, chest pains, allergy, runny nose, bronchitis, abnormal heart rhythms, bleeding, blood pressure changes, headaches, fainting when rising suddenly from a sitting position, bone pain, bursitis, twitching, breast pain, fibrocystic disease of the breast, cystitis, urinary pain, double vision, eye or ear pain, conjunctivitis, anemia, swelling, low blood sugar, and low thyroid activity.

In addition, many other side effects affecting virtually every body system have been reported. They are too numerous to mention. 3

Positive ions also have a serotonin triggering effect

Side effects from positive ions winds (such as the Chinook wind in Calgary and the Santa Ana winds in southern California) compiled by a Swiss meteorological report in 1974 are as follows:

Studies in Geneva showed an increase of over 50% in traffic accidents during times of high positive ion ratios.

Physical side effects: Body pains, sick headaches, dizziness, twitching of the eyes, nausea, fatigue, faintness, disorders in saline (salt) budget with fluctuations in electrolytical metabolism (calcium and magnesium; critical for alcoholics), water accumulation, respiratory difficulties, allergies, asthma, heart and circulatory disorders (heart attacks approx. 50% higher) low blood pressure, slowing down in reaction time, more sensitivity to pain, inflammations, bleeding embolisms of the lungs, and thrombosis.

Faintness :

Psychological side effects: Emotional unbalance, irritation, vital disinclination, compulsion to meditate, exhaustion, apathy, disinclination or listlessness toward work (poor school achievement), insecurity, anxiety, depression (especially after age forty to fifty), rate of attempted suicide about 20% higher, larger number of admittances to clinics in drug cases. 4

Positive Ion Winds

Winds with high levels of Positive Ions are present in several areas of the world, but known by different names, depending of the country, is associated with significant physiological and psychological effects upon human populations. Typically this wind is hot and dry, and brings with it, an invasion of positive ions. Listed below are several geographical locations showing the name by which the wind is known in that are 5 :

True Antidepressants

Negative ions decrease pilot fatigue and increase reaction times of pilots

U.S. Air force study

Negative ion generators have proven to be a much better antidepressant, since the negative ions allow the body and brain to convert excess serotonin into a harmless chemical (known as 5-HIAA) 6. Negative ions also allow the body to build up adrenaline reserves and have no adverse side effects. Depressed people tend to notice an immediate effect with antidepressants because of the hyperactivity of the adrenaline gland. With negative ions, because there is no obvious immediate effect, many people think that they aren't doing anything. Negative ions should be considered an effective long-term antidepressant. They are not an absolute cure to depression. They do counteract many of the problems associated with depression. On the other hand, if we use the short term serotonin triggering antidepressant medication, relief will come, but only for a short while. In the long term this medication contributes to the reason behind much of the depression in the first place.

Plants don't need noses to smell. The ability is in their genes. Researchers at the University of Tokyo have discovered the first steps of how information from odor molecules changes gene expression in plants. Manipulating plants' odor detection systems may lead to new ways of influencing plant behavior.

The discovery is the first to reveal the molecular basis of odor detection in plants and was more than 18 years in the making.

"We started this project in 2000. Part of the difficulty was designing the new tools to do odor-related research in plants," said Professor Kazushige Touhara of the University of Tokyo.

Plants detect a class of odor molecules known as volatile organic compounds, which are essential for many plant survival strategies, including attracting birds and bees, deterring pests, and reacting to disease in nearby plants. These compounds also give essential oils their distinctive scents.

Touhara's team exposed tobacco cells and 4-week-old tobacco plants to different volatile organic compounds. They discovered that odor molecules change gene expression by binding to other molecules called transcriptional co-repressors that can turn genes on or off.

In plants, the odor molecules must move into the cell and accumulate before they affect plant behavior. In animals, odor molecules are recognized by receptors on the outside of cells in the nose and immediately trigger a signaling pathway to recognize the odor and change behavior.

"Plants can't run away, so of course they react to odors more slowly than animals. If plants can prepare for environmental change within the same day, that is probably fast enough for them," said Touhara.

Speed is unnecessary for plants, but they may be able to recognize a much greater variety of odor molecules.

"Humans have about 400 odor receptors. Elephants have about 2,000, the largest number in animals. But based on how many transcription factor genes are in plants, plants may be able to detect many more odors than animals," said Touhara.

Touhara imagines applying these discoveries to influence crop quality or character without the complications of gene editing or pesticide use.

Farmers could spray their fields with an odor associated with a desired plant behavior. For example, an odor that triggers plants to change the taste of their leaves to deter insects.

"All creatures communicate with odor. So far, our lab has studied within-species communication: insect to insect, mouse to mouse, human to human. This understanding of how plants communicate using odor will open up opportunities to study 'olfactory' communication between all creatures," said Touhara.

The University of Tokyo research team made their discoveries using tobacco plants, a common model organism. They expect research teams around the world will soon verify the discovery in many other types of plants.

Can olfactory training change the psychosocial aspects of chronic pain?

Pain and smell are the oldest senses for apperceive our environment. It is known that chronic pain and olfaction share common limbic cortical regions which are the main parts of the pain neuromatrix such as the anterior cingulate cortex, amygdala, and orbitofrontal cortex. Also, these regions point out the psychosocial aspects of chronic pain. And currently, the most challenging part of chronic pain management is the psychosocial aspect such as kinesiophobia, catastrophizing, or depression. Thus, the connection between olfaction and pain has promising clues to determining new combined therapies with odor training. According to intriguing brain imaging and genetic studies, we hypothesized that patients with chronic pain may have differentiated olfactory thresholds. Further, the additional odor training to the traditional therapeutic approach could be beneficial regarding the patients’ pain perspective and psychosocial domains.

Pain is defined as an unpleasant and emotional sensorial experience, reflecting potential or current tissue damage.1 In the acute phase, pain is just a part of functional healing that provides intensity, location, and physical description of the painful stimulus.2 However, chronic pain is a pervasive disease model with altered psychosocial aspects such as negative emotions, pain catastrophizing, anxiety, and fear-avoidance behavior.3,4 One-quarter of the world's population suffers from chronic

Does the olfactory threshold differentiate between individuals with chronic pain and asymptomatic controls?

Current studies have suggested that unpleasant odors could lead to increased pain perception and pleasant odors could increase pain tolerance.28,29 Besides, Gossrau et al. showed a significant increase in the pain threshold of patients with chronic back pain following the four weeks of odor training.31 This effect of odor training is discussed from two different perspectives. First, the authors speculate a cognitive transition of pain perception via the positive effects of odors on mood,

Considering the neuroanatomical connection between olfaction and pain, we believe that odor training has promising effects on psychosocial aspects of chronic pain which is the most challenging part of rehabilitation. Changing the psychosocial aspects of pain perception through smell can also provide better participation to exercise and movement therapies. Overall, we hope that this possible association will provide new frameworks in aromatherapy and lead to additional benefits for the

Can You Smell Pain?

Dr. John Douillard, DC, CAP January 7, 2017

Science Says You Can!

Cultivating a Sattvic Environment

Science Says You Can!

There are decades of research that support the connection between the sense of smell, memories and emotion. (2) Perfumes, a holiday fire, Christmas trees, hospitals, ball fields, spring, fall, winter ? all have unique scents that deliver emotions, childhood memories and heightened states of awareness. New research suggests that the smell or scent of someone in pain could actually trigger the transference of that pain to someone who smelled the person in pain.

A new study published in the journal Nature found that when mice were living in the same quarters as other mice, certain types of pain were transferred from one mouse to the other… through the sense of smell.

When people are exposed to certain inflammatory molecules, or they are battling with withdrawal from drugs or alcohol, they can experience extreme sensitivity to touch, chemical irritants or heat. The skin becomes hypersensitive and painful to the touch, and this is exacerbated by chemicals, heat and odors.

“Andrey Ryabinin and his colleagues at Oregon Health and Science University in Portland found that when mice were subjected to these pain-inducing treatments, untreated mice in the same room also acquired sensory pain to touch. Moreover, mice in a separate room began displaying this pain sensitivity after exposure to bedding used by the hypersensitive animals in the first room. The authors conclude that the pain is transmitted by an olfactory cue.” (1)

The researchers concluded that chronic pain in humans that presents with no apparent structural, physiological or traumatic cause could be due to the social transfer of pain caused by the scent of someone in pain with who you are in close proximity. Perhaps the message is to be aware of the scents you frequent in your environment.

Cultivating a Sattvic Environment

In Ayurveda, all the senses must be regularly exposed to pleasing sights, sounds, tastes, smells and textures. This is called a sattvic environment ? which, unfortunately, is far removed from our modern hustle and bustle lives. First and foremost, it is found in nature as we watch a sunset, listen to a babbling brook, smell the fresh mountain air or while petting your emotional support animal. Ayurveda suggests that a home should incorporate the aspects of nature with flowers, open air, natural fibers and architecture that includes a balance of wood, rock, plants, beautiful music and fresh air.

It is this type of environment that supports optimal mental, emotional, physical and spiritual health, according to Ayurveda. Your environment matters! As indicated by the old Ayurvedic saying, “What you see, you become.”

Emotional processing and its relationship to chronic low back pain: results from a case-control study

Chronic low back pain (CLBP) is a common, yet challenging condition for both patients and clinicians. Several studies have demonstrated a strong association between CLBP and psychological factors such as anxiety, fear-avoidance, self-efficacy, catastrophizing and depression. These factors are closely linked with emotional states; however, it is unknown whether CLBP patients process their emotions differently from asymptomatic individuals.

The aim of this case-control study was to investigate the relationship between CLBP and emotional processing. A sample of 110 participants comprising of 55 patients with chronic back pain and 55 individuals without a history of CLBP were assessed using the Emotional Processing Scale (EPS-25). The EPS-25 generates an overall score, and also scores pertaining to five individual emotional processing factors--avoidance, suppression, unregulated emotion, impoverished emotional experience and signs of unprocessed emotion.

Chronic back pain patients scored significantly higher in the overall EPS-25 score (p < 0.001) with an effect size of 0.33. In addition, there were significant differences in four factors--impoverished emotional experience, unregulated emotion, unprocessed emotion, and suppression, with effect sizes ranging from 0.20 to 0.44.

The results suggest that dysfunctional emotional processing, particularly with regard to the suppression of emotions, is associated with CLBP. Clinicians should critically consider the role of emotional processing in their patients' evaluation and management. Future research using a prospective cohort should assess the role of emotional processing as a predictor in the development of chronic back pain.

The Spiritual Meaning of Lower Back Pain

Seeking and acknowledging the spiritual meaning of lower back pain can set you on a course for recovery.

Lower back pain can be debilitating. When this part of your body is in crisis, it creates a sense of desperation. Along with physical issues, many people only find relief when they tend to the emotional and spiritual meaning of lower back pain.

The lower back, including the lumbar spine and sacrum, is a storehouse for emotion. Unless you are exploring the deeper emotional and psychological roots of back pain, you are missing an opportunity to heal.

In the maze of treatments for chronic back pain, the spiritual meaning of lower back pain is one that is often overlooked. Jeana Naluai, Director of Ho’omana Spa on the island of Maui and kumu (teacher) of indigenous Hawaiian wisdom and practices, explains that back pain is the most common complaint from people who, “having tried everything else,” show up on her table desperate for relief.

The Sacrum and L5: The Spiritual Source of Lower Back Pain

“Low back pain, at the area of the lumbar spine,” explains Naluai, “has to do with genealogy. Each vertebra of the lumbar spine has a different focus.” In the lineage teachings Naluai received, it is important to consider pain at the level of each vertebra and the one above and below it and to consider where the back meets the hips as well.

Genealogy :
Vertebra :

The sacrum, that triangular bone that sits at the base of your spine, represents your roots and where you are on the planet. The spine articulates with the pelvis at the sacroiliac joints. The pelvis has to do with drive and power and the ability to move towards choices and directions. “It's how we move through our time here,” explains Naluai. “People who are not grounded, not rooted energetically or spiritually, typically have pain in the sacrum or pelvis.”

Pelvis :

L5 is the lowest vertebrae. It articulates with your sacrum and involves flexibility in your relationship to your time on Earth. In Naluai’s lineage teachings, “It has a lot to do with genetic history and ancestral lineage. How you walk forward in life with, or without, the support of family or ancestors.”

A great deal of emotional upset can occur for people who are living somewhere they don’t feel that they belong. Pain in this area is often associated with not feeling that you are “planted where you are supposed to be.” That might show up as not feeling that you belong in your family, that your family doesn’t relate to you on some level, or that you just can’t find your tribe, the people who understand and accept you on a deep level.

L4: Emotions, Acceptance, and Ancestral Support as a Spiritual Source of Lower Back Pain

Moving up the spine, L4 is the seat of emotion, especially grief. It's also your center for creativity, how you hold joy with your family, community, and world around you.

For people who grew up with the belief that it was not okay to express strong emotion, specifically around loss and tragedy, pain will often show up here. Likewise, if celebrations were not honored, or there was not a true outlet for expressing joy and connection, this part of the lower back can cause problems.

L3 is about acceptance from our family. People who don’t feel accepted for their choice of a partner or for their sexual orientation may develop pain in this area of the low back. According to Naluai, pain here also represents “not having familial support towards the decisions that you make and how that lineage conversation affects your attitudes towards communities. It's about interrelationships that can be from the past, present, and future in your understanding.”

L3: The Spiritual Meaning of Low Back Pain and Digesting Life Experience

L3 is about digestion on all levels: digesting beliefs, digesting choices. The spiritual roots of back pain here wrap around to the front side. Naluai explains, “If you were raised with a certain belief system that had been passed down for generations and then you veered off in your decision towards another system of beliefs, such as religion or career choice that created a break or separation with what your ancestors were doing or what are the rest of your family is doing, you might find a challenge in this area until you heal that break within yourself.”

“This part of the spine,” she says, “has to do with the digestion of these kinds of life choices. It is possible to heal the spiritual root of back pain in this area. There is a great deal of healing when they stand in their truth and power with regards to their own beliefs and choices. Sometimes that's what ends up motivating a shift for the whole family. You can make a change with a choice for yourself that heals not just you, but something in your family line that needed to shift because that was a limited belief system or limiting pattern.”

L2: Finding Spiritual Stability and Flexibility in the Lower Back

L2 has to do with your physical capability to support yourself and how you flex backward and forward. This relates to movement within your work and your capacity to support yourself physically.

Naluai shares: “I notice that men end up having more issues with their lower back. I think that has to do with the role of men being the financial support for the family in a traditional sense, even though a lot of us are shifting outside of that traditional sense at this point.”

Naluai sees pain in this area in “men who start a family very quickly and don’t excel in the education that they wanted for themselves or in the direction that they wanted. Instead they had to hunker down and do what they need to do to support the family, and maybe weren't able to follow their true dream.”

The top lumbar vertebra, L1, has to do with stability. Pain here is often associated with changes in financial, relationship, or career stability. Naluai says this is a result of one of the “foundational aspects of a person’s life being rocked.” It is connected to L2 and often involves having aspirations for what you want to do that are different from your family or ancestral obligations.

Healing the Spiritual Roots of Lower Back Pain

Many people show up on Naluai’s table after having tried a whole host of therapeutic and pharmaceutical remedies. Her first step is having a conversation about what was going on in the person’s life when the pain started.

She describes the process she witnesses of people who get stuck in chronic pain cycles: They go on medication to numb out because it’s too painful to explore sensitive issues with family. “These are often not easy conversations to have, especially when there are issues that are deeply rooted in your genealogy. People think they have to just live with it because it’s how it’s always been. But then, explains Naluai, “You realize that your dad had the same thing that your grandfather had that his grandfather had; that it’s been going on for generations. Ultimately it has to do with this one belief system that's severely limiting.”

Naluai says: “What you find is that when you take care of the emotional roots or spiritual meaning of lower back pain, through practices like ho’oponopono, counseling, self-reflection or meditation or through some kind of ceremony of release, the pain will begin to ease. When you align spiritually and emotionally, the physical body falls back into alignment. You could go to 10,000 massage therapists and just barely scratch the surface if you're not willing to look at the full picture.”

While looking at these types of ancestral wounds can be painful and difficult emotionally, ultimately it is by addressing the spiritual meaning of lower back pain that you can begin to find true relief.

How does lunar planting work?

Isaac Newton established the laws of gravity, which proves the tides are affected by the gravitational pull of the moon. The pull of the moon is stronger than the sun because, even though the sun is larger, the moon is closer to the earth. The strongest effect is felt when the moon and sun pull from the opposite sides of the earth, at the full moon phase, although it also creates high tides when they are on the same side (at the new moon) as well.

“The gravitation of the passing moon pulls the nearest body of water a little away from the solid mass of earth beneath it, and at the same time pulls the earth a little away from the water on the farthest side. In this manner the moon sets up two tidal bulges on opposite sides of the earth.” (Louise Riotte, 1)

These same forces affect the water content of the soil, creating more moisture in the soil at the time of the new and full moon. This increased moisture encourages the seeds to sprout and grow. Dr. Frank Brown of Northwestern University performed research over a ten-year period of time, keeping meticulous records of his results. He found that plants absorbed more water at the time of the full moon. He conducted his experiments in a laboratory without direct contact from the moon, yet he found that they were still influenced by it. (2)

Rudolf Steiner was the founder of the anthroposophical movement, which sees a correlation between science, nature, universal laws and spiritual concerns. Out of this movement the Biodynamic methods of planting were developed. He established a relationship between the elements of earth, air, fire, or water that corresponded to specific parts of the plants. Earth corresponds to root, water to leaf growth, fire to seed production, and air corresponds to flowers. Hence, when planting crops for their fleshy roots, you would plant them in an earth sign, and so forth.

Biodynamic methods are based on the heliocentric, or astronomical, position of the moon. This system is more complicated and also takes into consideration eclipses, trine, apogee and perigee as well as descending and ascending moons. (The Gardening by the Moon Calendar is based on the geocentric and astrological calculations.)

John Jeavons, author of "How to grow more vegetables…" adds the influence of the increasing or decreasing moonlight on the growth of plants. When the moon is in it's waxing phases the " increasing amount of moonlight stimulates leaf growth", and " as the moonlight decreases the above ground leaf growth slows down. The root is stimulated again." (3)

Further tests have been conducted, most notably by Frau Dr. Kolisko in Germany in 1939, and by Maria Thun in 1956. They primarily experimented with root crops, showing the effect of lunar phases on seed germination. They found maximum germination on the days before the Full moon. Crop yields were reported by weight.

Thun was surprised to discover that the signs of the zodiac played its' part as well.Thun experimented with a variety of crops: carrots and parsnips represented root crops; lettuce, spinach and corn salad as leaf types; beans, peas, cucumbers and tomatoes as fruit seed types; zinnias, snapdragons and asters were air crops. Crops responded well when planted in the appropriate sign for their type of plant. There were some exceptions, however. Some plants seemed to favor signs other than what would appear to be logical; for instance the brassica family, (broccoli, cauliflower, etc.) which one might consider flowering types, seemed to favor water signs. Cucumbers sown on leaf days had strong leafy growth, but did not produce many flowers. Their tests also seemed to indicate that responses to lunar planting were heightened when planted in organic soil that had not been treated with chemical fertilizer or pesticides. (4)

Ute York, in her book "Living by the Moon" says “The old-time gardeners say, "With the waxing of the moon, the earth exhales." When the sap in the plants rise, the force first goes into the growth above ground. Thus, you should do all activities with plants that bear fruit above ground during a waxing moon. With the waning of the moon, the earth inhales. Then, the sap primarily goes down toward the roots. Thus, the waning moon is a good time for puning, multiplying, fertilizing, watering, harvesting, and controlling parasites and weeds” (5)

Plants sown in the correct combination of the best lunar phase and sign show increased vigor, due to having all the best influences. They are growing at an optimum rate and are not as prone to setbacks that would affect less healthy plants.Harvests are often quicker, larger and crops don't go to seed as fast.

(Tide)
